Telling Tales - KS2-3

The Art of Telling Stories

Inspiring confidence inside and out with the spoken word...

Whether reciting poetry, making a presentation or speaking in assembly, many young people struggle with public speaking. This workshop has been developed in response to the greater emphasis placed on spoken English (especially at Primary level) in the new Curriculum, and a communicated desire from teachers to engage with speaking in an enjoyable, accessible way.

Using a variety of source texts; including poetry, playscripts and traditional stories from different cultures (including pupils' own work) pupils will use fun, challenging and active exercises to tackle public speaking. Easing in gently, pupils are encouraged to present to partners, small groups and eventually the whole class.

This session can be particularly useful for groups with low reading ability, concentrating on inspiring confidence in English through the spoken word without relying on written texts.
